This past Friday evening, a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger car resulted in the death of the motorcyclist and critical injuries to a passenger on the motorcycle. The accident occurred on Perrysville Road in Danville when the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze turned in front of an oncoming motorcycle, resulting in the motorcycle operator and passenger being thrown from the bike after crashing into the side of the vehicle.
Both the motorcycle and the Chevy Cruze caught fire because of the collision. The driver of the Chevy and his passenger were able to escape their vehicle without injury, but were taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for examination. The driver of the Cruze was ticketed for failure to yield to the motorcycle.
The motorcycle operator, identified as 57-year-old Glenn Simmons of Danville, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was riding behind him on the bike, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital to undergo surgery and is currently listed in critical condition.
