Spiros Law Volunteer Night

At Spiros Law, we value the close-knit communities we are located in. We are proud to be one of the local businesses and like to take opportunities to step up and volunteer our time to help give back and enrich the communities that we work and live in. The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is an organization we have a great history with. In 2018, Partner, Miranda Soucie worked to raise donations as part of the “Prom Court” fundraiser. Miranda worked hard to collect $11,325.00 in donations and was awarded the title of Prom Queen, but most importantly, her fundraising helped contribute to a record-breaking $75,000.00 raised from the 2018 Prom Court. The event in total raised over $140,000.00 to help the estimated 77,000 adults and 39,000 children in our local community that seek help from programs supported by the EIF every year.

Since Miranda’s involvement with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, we have gathered on a few occasion to help with repacks. At our most recent volunteer night, we worked to help check the quality, sort, and repackage donations from the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. The food drive occurs every spring where the National Association of Letter Carriers delivers a bag for each household to fill with non-perishable food items. These bags are then left at their mailboxes for letter carriers in Champaign, Urbana, and surrounding areas to pick up and deliver to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Once the donated items are delivered to EIF, that is where volunteers like us are able to step in and help. As volunteers, we each took a position and worked as a team to sort and package the donated items. We made and labeled boxes, sorted cans, and packaged certain items into boxes. In our time voulenteering, we were able to completely fill two pallets of boxes that will be distributed to community members in need.

The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is a great organization that we are happy to donate our time to. They serve an 18-county area in Eastern Illinois covering just over 14,500 square miles. The Eastern Illinois Foodbank provides about 10.7 million pounds of food – including 2 million pounds of produce – to over 220 agencies and programs feeding the hungry each year.

The entire team at Spiros Law is proud to help with this great cause, and we highly encourage all of our friends and family in the community to join in and donate as well whether it be a monitory donation or taking a few hours of their time to help repackage donations.
