An accident occurred around 7:21 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28 in which the driver of a van lost control of the vehicle on Interstate 57. The van flipped several times before eventually coming to rest on its roof in a pond just east of the highway.
According to police reports, there were nine occupants in the vehicle at the time of the incident ranging in age from six to seventy-seven. One passenger’s injuries are considered critical, and one passenger, 43-year-old Murtuza S. Rajkotwala of Willowbrook, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other passengers’ injuries were not life-threatening.
The deceased’s wife, Farida Rajokotwala, was driving the van in the northbound lane when she suddenly lost control. Firefighters reported to the site of the accident near County Road 800 N where they found the van upside-down and partially submerged in the pond.
No tickets have been issued, and Illinois State Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
