A 50-year-old man was killed earlier this week in an accident at a BRG Sports plant in Rantoul. Police were called to the plant on Wednesday around 9:30 p.m. after a man sustained a head injury when he fell from a shelving unit on which pallets were stacked. When police arrived on the scene, the man who had fallen was unresponsive.
Sgt. Justin Bouse said that the man walked into an area marked as a place where people were not supposed to enter, and fell somewhere between 30 and 40 feet. Based on reports given by other employees at the accident scene, the victim was apparently engrossed in his work when he walked into the restricted area, and his co-workers assumed that he simply did not see the signs warning of the dangerous conditions.
The victim, identified as James Cornelius, was taken by helicopter to Carle Foundation Hospital, and he was pronounced dead the next morning.
The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Spiros Law, P.C., are with the family and loved ones of the victim at this difficult time.
