On Sunday afternoon, John J. Kwiakowski, 49, drove his blue 2013 Ford Taurus on Illinois 9 with a juvenile female in the passenger seat. About .4 miles east of 470 East Road, the car hit a ditch and a tree before it flipped and landed on its roof.
Emergency personnel had to remove the two victims from the car. They were both transported to and treated at a local hospital.
The Illinois Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
According to a report, Kwiatowski was found to be under the influence at the time of the crash. He was charged with aggravated DUI, transportation of open alcohol containers, and other various traffic violations.
