Illinois Manufacturers Association president and CEO Greg Baise said last Tuesday, September 27 that Illinois’ business climate is not kind to the manufacturing industry, which has lost around 300,000 jobs since 2000. Baise noted, “We have seen job losses of 25% to 30% in all the major urban areas throughout the state. The question I believe is a job-growth climate that is not really there in this state as it is in other states throughout the Midwest.”
Democrats are not keen on revamping the workers’ compensation system in the state, whose rates are considered one of the highest in the country, for fear the changes pushed by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner might hurt the welfare of the injured workers.
