The Illinois Department of Transportation will be lowering the speed limit on I-74 from 70 mph to 60 mph in response to a traffic study. The study demonstrated that the crash rate, number of interchanges, and prevailing speed justified a need for a reduced speed limit. The change affects the area between Cunningham Avenue in Champaign and I-57 and will go into effect on Friday.
