Hyundai to pay $14 million for Virginia teen’s brain injury

A jury verdict has fined Hyundai Motor America $14 million in a faulty airbag claim that was filed after teenage driver Zachary Duncan suffered traumatic brain damage in a car accident in 2010.

Records show that on February 27, 2010, a personal injury lawsuit was filed by the parents of Duncan against the auto manufacturer after the Hyundai Tiburon their teenage son was driving crashed and the side airbags failed to deploy.

According to court records, the side air bags on the Hyundai Tiburon malfunctioned and, thus, were unable to provide a safety cushion for Duncan, allowing his head to hit the roof of the car and leading to serious brain injuries.
