Since it was established in 1958 by a proclamation by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Law Day has been celebrated annually on May 1st. The team at Spiros Law, P.C. is proud to commemorate this year’s Law Day by reflecting on our legal system and how it protects the freedom that we all cherish. The purpose of Law Day is to remind us all of the liberties that are protected by our system of law. Without the rule of law, we would not be able to govern ourselves in this democratic system that is so vital to our way of life as Americans.
The theme of this year’s Law Day is “Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom”. The American Bar Association encourages us all to remember the essential separation of powers between the three branches of government: Executive, Judicial, and Legislative. Each branch has distinctly outlined powers and is designed to serve as a “check” on the other. This Law Day, it is important to take a moment to reflect on our Constitution, the separation of powers, and how it impacts our modern society.
