According to a column published in the Chicago Sun-Times on July 20, there is a lot of erroneous rhetoric surrounding the workers’ compensation issue in Illinois.
The report outlined several facts, one of which highlighted a national study from Oregon of workers’ compensation systems that placed Illinois with the seventh most expensive insurance costs in the nation. According to the column, there are a lot of costs that can still be cut without harming the care a worker receives, including through drug cost reforms.
Also, contrary to other reports, the report said the five-year average profit for Illinois workers’ compensation insurance companies was 0.8%, a much lower rate compared with the 4.4% national profit, the Illinois Department of insurance records showed.
