Central Management Services director Thomas Tyrell filed a lawsuit on Friday, November 13 in Sangamon County Circuit Court in Illinois against Attorney General Lisa Murray Madigan, claiming that “millions” of dollars have been wrongfully awarded by an Illinois state agency that should pay workers’ compensation benefits to injured workers, but instead has been paying “hundreds” of caregivers who are not legitimate state employees.
Tyrell claims that Madigan has failed to defend the CMS in a number of cases before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, particularly in two workers’ compensation claims lodged by Springfield resident and personal assistant Stephanie Yencer-Price in 2011.
Madigan’s deputy press secretary, Annie Thompson, said in a statement issued on Monday, November 16 that “we strongly disagree with CMS’ allegations and will be responding in court”.
