Pat Hartshorn with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office announced this morning that all lanes of I-74 were shut down between Fithian and Oakwood due to an earlier accident. The accident involved a recreational vehicle that was hauling commercial-grade fireworks and ended up in the median of I-74 after the accident, which occurred at around 10 a.m.
The Vermilion County Sheriff’s department handled the re-routing of traffic around the accident site, while an ordnance team was called in to properly handle the fireworks on-site. Most traffic was rerouted along U.S. 150 until the accident scene was cleared.
