Police have reported a collision on Interstate 57 south of Arcola that resulted in the injury of two drivers. According to reports, a 42-year-old semitrailer truck driver from Lawrenceville, GA was traveling south on I-57 near milepost 197, about 5 miles south of Arcola, when he ran into the right ditch. While trying to get the semitrailer back on the highway, he overcorrected and the rig rolled onto its passenger side, coming to rest in the southbound lanes. Then, a 45-year-old driver from Tuscola, driving a Fiat, crashed into the semi-truck and immediately caught fire. Both the driver of the semi-truck and the Fiat were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Traffic was diverted for about three hours while first responders worked to extinguish the fire out and clean up the wreckage. The semi-truck driver was ticketed for improper lane usage.
