A crash on Interstate 57 in southern Champaign County resulted in the death of one and the serious injury of another. According to Illinois State Police, a Nissan van was traveling south on I-57 when, about a mile south of the exit for U.S. 45 at Pesotum, it collided with the rear of a second vehicle. As a result of the collision, the Nissan van was diverted off of the road and hit several small trees. A passenger in the Nissan van was thrown from the van and is in serious condition. The driver was brought to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana and was unfortunately pronounced dead. The second vehicle involved continued driving after being hit and has yet to be identified. State police are asking anyone who has information on the second driver or who saw what happened to call the Zone 5 office at 217-278-5004 or send an email to ISP.DCI.Zone05 @illinois.gov.
