Toyota recently announced a global recall of almost 250,000 of its Hybrid series vehicles due to brake system defects on Wednesday, June 5. 117,000 cars located in Japan, 91,000 in North America, 30,000 in Europe, and a few hundred more scattered around the world are being recalled.
Toyota officials said that manufacturing flaws in the brake booster pump assembly of the March-October 2009 Prius and Lexus HS 250h Hybrid vehicles will be closely inspected and are likely to be replaced by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
Nearly 100 drivers complained about having to step on the brake pedal much harder than normal. It was found that this was caused by nitrogen gas leaking into the brake fluid.
