According to the Fayetteville County sheriff’s office, a church van that rolled over on Interstate 70 today near Vandalia, Illinois resulted in the death of five people and caused injury to six others.
The 2002 Dodge van, which can carry up to fifteen passengers, was headed eastbound on I-70 when it reportedly drove off the highway, causing it to roll over several times and throw several passengers from the vehicle. Investigators responded to the scene of the accident to look for a possible cause; however, according to the sheriff’s office, inclement weather was not reported in the area.
It was also reported to the Associated Press that, of the people injured, four were taken to Fayette County Hospital in fair condition, while two others, whose conditions were not reported immediately following the accident, were taken to Greenville Regional Hospital.
