On Wednesday, an accident involving a minivan and a combine claimed the lives of three people and seriously injured three others.
According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred when the driver of a large farm combine ran the stop sign at County Road 800 South and State Road 25. A Dodge Caravan traveling on State Road 25 collided with the combine, subsequently trapping the minivan in the combine’s blades.
The driver of the combine stated that he did not see the minivan on the road before the collision.
There were six people inside the van at the time of the accident, and emergency crews had to take the driver’s side door off of the vehicle in order to reach the people inside. Three of the people inside of the van were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The three surviving passengers were airlifted to the hospital in order to be treated for their injuries, but an update on their condition has not yet been released. The combine driver was uninjured but transported to a local hospital for blood testing as a part of the accident investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victims of this devastating accident as well as their friends and family.
