A semi-truck rollover accident on Interstate 57 caused the road to be closed for nearly three hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
According to officials, the semi-truck was carrying 8,000 pounds of furniture when the 36-year-old truck driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer that was in the roadway. State police have stated that the driver may have been traveling at a high speed and this caused him to lose control of the truck when he swerved.
Both lanes of traffic were blocked as a result and traffic had to be rerouted to Illinois Route 17 for three hours. The man was transported to the hospital in order to be treated for his injuries and was also cited for improper lane usage as a result of the crash.
